Building our new school

After receiving notice that our school house lease was not being renewed we have been spending time planning and now building our new school. From Amar’s perspective this is just a natural thing to do. Find a piece of land and start building.

In most places we would be bogged down for months or years to get to this point. In just over 2 weeks we have the bamboo framework measuring approximately 16 feet X 40 feet. Walls and roof are 100% green. Straw cut manually from the river floodplains, bamboo from the forests, rope and hemp and a few small nails.

We pay the workers, a team of 6 men 2400 rupees ($42) each day for the construction. When complete we will give them an unexpected gratuity for the excellent work. You can see the excitement of the children and I am grateful for the well-natured temperament of the workers. Next week we will dig a water well and place a pump.
