Meet the founder

Thank you for taking the time to read about The Unicorn Project/Unstoppable Welfare Trust, Bihar, India. The project was started by Amar Kumar, a resident of Bodhgaya, India.

Amar works as a teacher and helps to manage “A Bowl of Compassion” another NGO operating in Bodhgaya. Amar had long felt that many small villages not that far from the major tourist mecca of Bodhgaya barely survive since tourists to Bodhgaya, a major source of income to the area, rarely visit the outlying villages.

I met Amar in 2018 after staying at the Bowl of Compassion’s hostel for an evening and visiting their school the next morning. Amar truly touched me with his energy, devotion and leadership. Amar was only 10 years old when his father died, and at that young age, he took on the responsibility of looking after his mother and 3 sisters. He completed high school, has taken various college-level courses, and speaks and writes fluent English. He is a Gold Star tour guide but has not entered this profession, choosing instead to teach part-time at Bowl of Compassion.

Amar leads a pious life and is committed to looking after his family which has arranged for him to be married in November of this year. After spending time with Amar and learning more about him, I made up my mind to help him help the children and families in this area to have a better life.
